Rouhani says US officials contacted him 5 times before NY trip, 'begging' to meet Obama.(taz).
Iranian president Hassan Rouhani said that he did not agree or a short meeting with Barack Obama, although prior to his going to NY, the U.S. officials contacted him 5 times, asking for a meeting with Obama, Tasnim news agency reported.
"They asked for a meeting with Barack Obama, but I refused," Rouhani told journalists after the meeting of cabinet of ministers.
Rouhani went on to say that during his visit to New York, he wanted to explain the rights of Iranian people and say that sanctions against Iran are illegal.
"We've achieved our goal. International community also wants the sanctions against Iran removed," Rouhani underscored.
"I told Barack Obama that people of Iran do not like the actions of the United States. I also told him that the problems between Iran and the U.S. will not be solved overnight, and he accepted that," Rouhani underscored.
It should be noted that presidents Hassan Rouhani and Barack Obama spoke by phone recently, in the highest-level contact between the two countries in three decades.
Rouhani also assured that Iran's nuclear technology and uranium enrichment will never be negotiated.
"We've opened the doors of nuclear objects in Iran for IAEA to inspect and control these objects," Rouhani said. "We have nothing to hide regarding nuclear issue."
He said that the enrichment of uranium is not a subject of discussions, however regarding the details of enrichment, we will look at what the other negotiating side offers.
Rouhani then went on to remind the words of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei about it being "a sin" possessing nuclear weapons.
The U.S. and its Western allies suspect Iran of developing a nuclear weapon - something that Iran denies. The Islamic Republic has on numerous occasions stated that it does not seek to develop nuclear weapons, using nuclear energy for medical researches instead.Hmmm......"We've opened the doors of nuclear objects in Iran for IAEA to inspect and control these objects," ............Still waiting to inspect Fordow.
