ISRAEL WARNS THAT EGYPT'S OPENING OF THE CROSSING INTO GAZA IS A DANGEROUS THREAT - HAMAS APPLAUDS IT
From Reliapundit, the Astute Blogger:

Israel's Vice Premier Shalom: Rafah crossing opening is a 'dangerous development'

Egypt announced on Wednesday that it plans to open its border with the Gaza Strip "on a daily basis" to "ease entry restrictions for Palestinians."

Under former president Mubarak, Egypt only sporadically opened up the Rafah border crossing for food and medicine, or to let through people, mainly those seeking medical treatment or traveling to study.

"Egyptian authorities have decided to extend the working hours at the Rafah border crossing starting from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on a daily basis, except for Fridays and official holidays, starting on Saturday, May 28," Egyptian news agency MENA said.

Vice Premier Silvan Shalom spoke out on Thursday against the opening of the Rafah crossing from Gaza into Egypt, calling for international supervision of the crossing.

"This is a dangerous development that could lead to weapons and al-Qaida smuggling into Gaza," Shalom said.

Homeland Security Minister Matan Vilna'i also warned that the opening of the Rafah crossing will be very problematic for Israel.

However, he added in an interview with Israel Radio, that Egypt did not break any agreements with Israel.

Hamas welcomed Egypt's decision to permanently open the crossing from Gaza into Egypt.

"This decision reflects the spirit of revolution in Egypt and the depth of brotherhood between the Palestinian people and the Egyptian people, which has returned itself to its original role in the Palestinian matter," a statement released by Hamas read.
NO GOOD EVER COMES FROM SOVEREIGN GOVERNMENTS APPEASING TERRORIST GROUPS LIKE HAMAS.

ESPECIALLY NOT WHEN THE TERRORIST GROUP IS JIHADIST AND GENOCIDAL AND ON THE BORDER WITH ISRAEL.

WARNING:

I PREDICT THAT WHEN THE IDF HAS PROOF THAT EVEN MORE SERIOUS WEAPONRY HAS ENTERED GAZA, THEY WILL STRIKE WITH A FORCE NOT YET SEEN IN ANY MIDDLE EAST CONFLICT.

Let us be clear, in the past, the Egyptian government has always been aware of the threat of an open border with Israel.

Indeed, the Egyptian government has been so against an open border into Israel that THEY FORTIFIED THE BORDER WITH A STEEL REINFORCED FENCE THAT REACHED UNDERGROUND THAT STRETCHES NINE MILES IN LENGTH.

If I recall correctly, the border reaches 20 feet down into the Earth, though I have been unable to find confirmation of the depth of the fence.

Will at The Other News points out that, up until now, the border issue has been such a big deal that the European Union had been in charge of monitoring the security of the Egypt-Gaza border:

EU agrees to monitor Gaza-Egypt crossing

The European Union agreed Monday to monitor a Gaza-Egypt border crossing that serves as the main gate to the world for Palestinians in the coastal strip.
The deployment of foreign inspectors at the Rafah terminal is a key element of an emerging Israeli-Palestinian deal on new border arrangements following Israel's pullout from the Gaza Strip in September.
EU foreign ministers agreed at a meeting in Brussels, Belgium, to "assume the third party responsibility" for monitoring the border crossing, Javier Solana, the EU's security affairs chief, told reporters as a delegation from the bloc toured the border area.
Israel closed Rafah just before the withdrawal, and the terminal has opened only sporadically since then to allow passage of hardship cases.
Solana did not give details of the conditions under which the EU monitors would supervise border traffic, saying Israeli and Palestinian negotiators were discussing the matter Monday. The Palestinians hope to reach agreement by Nov. 15.
