A Day of Mourning

Today is the anniversary of the murder of Pim Fortuyn, murdered four years ago in Hilversum, Netherlands by Far-Left activist Volkert van der Graaf. I have tried checking all of the news, but there is of yet no mention of the annual march held in memory of him. I will be getting pictures and details of the march from a Dutch friend soon, and will post more fully on my site later. But I think it important to remember what happened to a rare and brave European politician who opposed Islamic encroachment in his country as a threat to the rights of Dutch citizens.

Fortuyn was himself not a right winger, as the media has smeared him constantly, but an openly gay reformed Marxist. His concern lay in the fact that Muslims in his country had no tolerance at all for women, homosexuals, or the tolerant society that the Dutch had worked so hard to create, which he loved. I'm sure that the irony is lost on the far-lefters in Europe that it was a product of their OWN intolerance which led to the murder of one who was risking his life to fight intolerance itself. Theo van Gogh, it must also be remembered, made a film about this black day in Dutch history prior to his film Submission, and both led to the ire of the Muslim community, members of which later killed him even more savagely. Pim at least did not suffer as he was shot numerous times, but mainly to his head.

Still we cannot forget that he is the man who would be the current Prime Minister and a quite revolutionary leader in Europe at the present time had he not been murdered. This would have been a tremendous change in the European political landscape, and though The Netherlands was shocked out of its complacency by his murder, his memory is increasingly being swept under the proverbial rug.

I will have more later, probably on my own site, though I will post pictures of the march here as well. I would like to invite you all to view a lovely memorial film about Pim made by a Dutch Fortuynist friend of mine. The page is in Dutch, and the video of Pim is at the very bottom. Just scroll down and click on his picture. The short film begins with an interview with him in Dutch, but continues on with numerous clips of him from television in life set to music. I love getting to see this charismatic hero of mine as he was in life, as he made the news here only a few times before his murder.
