Balls: Iran Wants Dialogue With Europe On Human Rights Issues

An Iranian official has called for open dialog between Tehran and Europe directed at the promotion of human rights and freedoms.
In a Wednesday meeting with French Human Rights Minister Rama Yade, Secretary of the Human Rights Headquarters of Iran's Judiciary Mohammad-Javad Larijani said Tehran is critical of human rights abuse and suggested that talks be held on the issue.
Washington and its Western allies accuse Iran and several other Muslim states of violating human rights, particularly issues concerning women.
At the UN General Assembly session in late November, Canadian Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon lobbied for an anti-Iran resolution with the reasoning that Iran does not respect human rights.
In an exclusive Press TV interview last week, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hassan Qashqavi responded to the Canadian contentions.
"No country in the world can claim to have a perfect record of human rights or no violations of human rights," said Qashqavi, adding that human rights is sacred only when it is not used as a "political tool against some countries".
Our Islamic values require us to respect human rights and we thus believe the situation should improve, Qashqavi continued.

The Islamic Republic has also voiced disapproval over the violation of the rights of religious minorities, especially Muslims, in France and several European countries and condemns US-sanctioned crime in the Middle East.
