Boston Herald Welcomes Khatami

The BH's friendly welcome to Khatami: welcome to Boston sir, we will bleed you to death.

Iran is desperately trying to bleed the US to death in Iraq. It tries, to a degree, to do the same thing with Israel, through Hizbullah and Hamas. Crittenden suggest that the roles should be turned around: Iran knows that the US (even with quite some allies) is not ready / willing / capable of starting a large invasion of Iran. Perhaps that is why Iran, so obviously, ignoring the demands of the West. Well, as Crittenden reasons, the West (albeit especially the US) don't need a large scale invasion: the Iranian regime, the horrific ambitions of the Iranian government can be fought by a smaller use of force.

We are reasonable people, so if you persist we will start with economic sanctions. An embargo: Nothing will get in or out of your country. The destruction of your oil fields: These assets finance terrorism and an unacceptable nuclear program. Until you dismantle your program, we will work our way down the list. Highways. Bridges. Power plants. Government buildings. Telecommunications centers. The religious centers where hatred is taught.

Perhaps something like this is, indeed, the best way of dealing with Iran militarily. It will allow the West not to invade Iran, while at the same time severely weaken the Iranian regime nonetheless. Perhaps with such an approach, pro-Democracy (or simply more moderate) movements will grow / become stronger in Iran as well.
