DIY OFF GRID SOLAR SYSTEM FOR HOME
In India most of the people are live in rural areas where national grid till not reached.Though now a days the Govt put effort to connect electricity to the most rural areas but there is still problems like 4 to 6 hours daily power cut, low voltage etc .So I thought if we use solar panels for the rural area to provide their basic needs of electricity then it will be great help. Installing a solar system at home is costly.One thing come to my mind the installation cost can be cut down if any one install the small solar panel for their home by themselves.
I write this article for all who wants to make a small solar system for their home who don't have much technical skill.Any one who have basic understanding of electricity can do this.
Overview :
There are two basic types of solar photo voltaic (solar panel) systems, off-grid and grid-tied. An off-grid system uses batteries, while batteries are optional in a grid-tied system.
In this article I will discuss the off grid solar system. An off-grid system uses solar panels to convert sunlight into electricity, and stores that electricity in batteries for later use.The charging of batteries are done by the help of a solar charge controller .The out put of batteries is DC (direct current).So dc load can be directly connected but most of the appliances in our home are run in AC (alternating current) power .An inverter will solve this problem.Refer the above picture for better understanding.
The main components of Solar Systems are :
1.SOLAR PANEL
2.CHARGE CONTROLLER
3.BATTERY
4. INVERTER
For a small solar system 12 VDC is the best option I think though a higher voltage system is more efficient (low loss ).
