Does Iran Now Have ICBM Capability?
Have you had your coffee yet?
Iran, apparently, now has Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile Capability.
This means, they now, apparently, have the ability to launch a nuclear weapon halfway around the globe and hit any country they so desire, including the United States of America.
I received this message this morning from WATCHER71:
Morning Pastorius,
Don't know if you have caught this one yet.
It appears that Iran has successfully launched a payload into orbit aboard a domestically produced rocket.
This differs from a previously successful ascent to orbit as the rocket used on that occasion was infact a Russian produced rocket.
If accurate this now means that Iran now has Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles. Iran now has global reach for what ever payload it chooses to strap onto the nose of these rockets, chemical, biological or nuclear.
Dark clouds are gathering my friend.....
From AP: Iran Tests For Future Launch Of Satellite
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran has test launched a rocket it plans to use to carry a research satellite into orbit, state television reported Sunday.
Iran has long held the goal of developing a space program.
In 2005, it launched its first commercial satellite on a Russian rocket in a joint project with Moscow, which appears to be the main partner in transferring space technology to Iran.
The country's fledgling space program, like its nuclear program, has provoked unease abroad. The same technology used to put satellites into space can also be used to deliver warheads.
The United States called the Feb. 4 launch "just another troubling development," saying it was a cause for concern about Iran's continuing development of medium- and long-range missiles.
From Asharq Alawsat:
TEHRAN, (AFP) - A top official from the UN atomic watchdog arrived in Tehran on Monday for his second round of talks this month on Iran's nuclear drive, the official news agency IRNA reported.
Olli Heinonen, deputy director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, was last in the country on August 7 for talks likely to have focused on clarifying the watchdog's outstanding questions about Iran's nuclear programme.
Iranian officials described those talks as "positive" but did not give any details.
Heinonen's visit comes a day after Iran announced it had fired into space a rocket carrying a dummy satellite, a move that the United States said was "troubling" because such technology could also be used for ballistic missiles.
Israel Concerned About Iranian Test Satellite Launch
Iran announced that before dawn it successfully launched into space a rocket capable of carrying a communications satellite. The name of the rocket is Ambassador of Hope and it weighs 20 kg.
The head of Iran's space agency reported this evening that the rocket carried a test satellite and not a real communications satellite, as first reported. However, he said it paved the way for the launch of an Iranian communications satellite into space. Tehran plans to launch four satellites into space by 2010.
A defence source in Israel told our correspondent Karmela Menashe that if the Iranians managed to launch a communications satellite into space it would be a significant achievement, a milestone in the history of the Middle East.
The source stressed that anybody who can launch satellites into space can launch other things across a distance of thousands of kilometres.
Yisra'el Beytenu Chairman Avigdor Liberman says the [UN] Security Council's silence after the launch of the Iranian rocket shows that at the end of the day Israel will have to deal with Iran on its own.
