Hamas infiltrating Fatah security agencies in West Bank
RAMALLAH — The Palestinian Authority has concluded that Hamas is and has been recruiting Fatah officials in the West Bank.Gee, you mean we can't look forward to dealing with Mamhoud Abbas and his deniers for peace?
PA officials said Hamas has infiltrated major security agencies loyal to PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas in an attempt to expand its influence. Hamas has agents in the lower and middle levels of security officers in such agencies as the Preventive Security Apparatus, civil police and National Security Forces in the West Bank.
"Hamas is doing in the West Bank what it did in the Gaza Strip," an official said. "It has infiltrated the ranks of most of the security agencies and has obtained an excellent intelligence picture."
The officials said they could not rule out that some senior Fatah officials who escaped from the Gaza Strip included Hamas double agents. Hamas has sought to use the captured Fatah infrastructure in the Gaza Strip to undermine the Abbas regime in the West Bank.
