There have been many things about the "Cartoon riots" that indicated that they might be more than just spontaneous outbursts of anger. Some of these ideas are discussed in a previous article (and the articles it links to): The facts behind the cartoon brouhaha hoax.
I recently came across this article, which has more information, and is one of the best explanations I've seen so far-- well worth reading: Perfect Timing for Cartoon Jihad.
