On Sunday, October 17, 2004 with the NY Yankees leading the Boston Red Sox in the American League Championship Series 3-0, and 4-3 in the ninth inning, and Mariano Rivera on the mound, and with the Red Sox having a man on first, Dave Roberts, everyone who follows baseball on this planet KNOWS Dave Roberts is going to try to steal 2nd base.
And God allows it. The Sox become the 1st team in history to overcome a 3-0 lead. And the Sox win the World Series 4-0. No justice, plain mercy. I was born in the Bronx, and live in eastern Maine, and my ENTIRE family, and extended family are RABID Sox fans.
And now, maybe even more convincingly….
An offense with Willis Mcgahee and NOTHING. In comes Tebow, probably because the Denver Broncos coach wants to shut up all the fans and critic bellyaching for this no talent, bulky, saved galoot to get a chance since the Broncos were never going to make the playoffs anyway.
RIGHT?
The Broncos a 1-4 team at that moment go 7-1 in the next 8 games mostly on a string of LITERALLY miracles, which never engage until the final moments of a game, and then find fruition in overtime.
This is, under the best imaginable circumstances about a 7-9 kind of team.
Tebow does two things. HE LEADS. The team wants to play for him. They want to win like nothing else for him. They are now too stupid to know what’s impossible ( this is the single largest qualifier for great achievement). The other thing Tebow does is pray.
He has now spawned a legion of PRAY-ERS. Yes I know it’s humorous, but these people are THINKING about it.
On this coming Sunday Tebow will face the team from New England.
And TOM BRADY.
And also one of the most putrid defenses ever put on a football field.
