I'm Not A Birther But...

Today, I received THIS and THIS in an email and decided to post the information. Hey, I've got a few leisurely minutes.

Excerpt from the first:
Arizona lawmakers who still aren't convinced President Barack Obama was born in the United States are pushing a bill that would require the president to show his birth certificate to get on the state's 2012 ballot....
Excerpt from the second:
- Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic Party did not certify that Obama qualified to run as a candidate for President of the U.S., but only that Obama was the Democratic Party candidate;

- the news media previously and numerously referred to Obama as “Kenya-born” before he ran for President. Afterwards, “Kenya-born” was dropped;

- Obama has spent over 2 million dollars in hiding what they say exists (his birth certificate) and supposedly have in hand

[...]

Congressman Bill Posey (FL – R) introduced a bill [3] (along with eleven co-sponsors) that would require any future candidate for President to prove his eligibility under HR 1503, which states:

“in the case of a principal campaign committee of a candidate for election to the office of President, a copy of the candidate’s birth certificate, together with such other documentation as may be necessary to establish that the candidate meets the qualifications for eligibility to the Office of President under section 5 of article II of the Constitution.’”

[...]

Assume that Obama shows America his birth certificate, and come to find out, his birth certificate proves he is a natural born U.S. citizen. What is to be said of the hundreds of millions of tax payer dollars that were spent to keep America from seeing what they are entitled to see?...
Much more here.

Some of the material in the article is a reach, in my view.

But suppose for a moment BHO isn't a United States citizen. Then, what?

Again, I repeat that I'm not a birther. And I think that birthers lack credibility. I know a few, and they're always ranting and raving about the topic and saying "Throw him out of office."

But when I say, "Oh, really? How do you think that BHO supporters are going to react? Are they really going to stand for removing BHO from office?" these birthers blow off my response.

Anyway, I thought I'd post this even though I'm not a birther. Could be an interesting discussion. Or not.

Pastorius cutting in. From the comments section:

Historical News Articles and FactCheck Agree: Obama is Kenyan-born

What had been a footnote to a recent posting on this site — as originally broke by TheBirthers.org — has become a whirl-wind of unearthed historical documents that were originally posted long before Mr. Obama’s eligibility had ever become the subject of scrutiny. In fact, TheObamaFile.com has compiled a number of links to these various stories:

  • Kenya Sunday Standard headline — “Kenyan-born Obama all set for US Senate”
  • The Nigerian Observer — “Americans will today go to the polls to elect their next President with Democratic Party candidate, Senator Barack Obama largely favoured to win. The Kenyan-born Senator will…”
  • USAfrica — “Kenyan-born OBAMA makes history…wins presidential nomination of U. S. Democratic party; eyes on White House…”
  • AllAfrica.com — ” Little wonder then why Kenyan-born Barack Obama, America’s first Black President…”
  • GraphicGhana.com — “For Ghana, Obama’s visit will be a celebration of another milestone in African history as it hosts the first-ever African-American President on this presidential visit to the continent of his birth.” The same article, with the same quote, appeared in ModernGhana.com.
  • The Ghana Times — “So far, the odds favour the once underdog in American politics, Obama, the African-American Senator from Illinois state. A Congressional Quarterly (CQ) politics monitored on BBC put the Kenyan born American ahead of his rivel, John McCain.”

From the comment section:

  • (“AmericanDaughter“) NPR.org — “…She also describes the stories that have been exciting, including the U.S. presidential race of Kenyan-born Sen. Barack Obama.”
  • (“AmericanDaughter“) AllAfrica.com — “Kampala — Ugandans have formed a group to mobilise support for Kenyan born-senator, Barack Obama for the US presidency.”

For the record, I think Obama was born in the U.S.

I present these quotes only because I was not aware of them.

However, I'll bet you they are mistranslations.

Note that all the quotes come from African periodicals. I am guessing the words that are translated, here, as "Kenya-born" actually mean, "of Kenyan descent."
