The mass suicide of Republican leadership: Will the Tea Party leave the sinking ship?
By Judson Phillips, Communities Digital NewsTEA PARTY EXPRESS, April 27, 2014 – The Republican Leadership of the House of Representatives is on suicide watch. They are bound and determined to commit political Hari-Kari, despite the warnings of their base and conservative activists.America has never seen a political party commit suicide before. But there is always a first time.Republicans are making their suicide march by abandoning their base totally. Congressman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, the Chair of the Republican Conference, announced that Obamacare was here to stay. Her words confirmed what we already knew: the GOP is not fighting against Obamacare.House Speaker John Boehner was even more direct. He now says it is too late to repeal Obamacare.John Boehner was Obama’s silent partner. This is what conservatives warned about. When Ted Cruz and Mike Lee led the fight last year to defund Obamacare, true conservatives supported them, knowing if it was not defunded then, it never would be.At the time, John Boehner said it was not the right time for the fight. For Boehner, it is never the right time for a fight until it is too late to fight.Boehner and the House Republican Leadership have stabbed the Tea Party and their base in the back. Now, instead of doing what the base wants, namely fighting to end Obamacare, Boehner wants to commit political suicide. His top priority now is Amnesty. The Tea Party is in open revolt over this and may well leave the Republican Party if Boehner tries to push Amnesty through.A little history is worth remembering here.In 2006 and 2008, the Republican Party was slaughtered. The GOP was on the endangered species list. One more bad election and the GOP would have taken its place as a minor party, with only slightly more members than the flat Earth society. Then came the Tea Party. The Tea Party saved the GOP.The Tea Party only asked for a few things in return. The Tea Party asked for smaller government. The Tea Party asked the Republicans to stand up against wasteful government spending, and The Tea Party asked the Republicans to at least defund Obamacare, if not force its repeal.Once the Republicans took over in 2011, all the Tea Party got was John Boehner’s freshly laundered white flag of surrender. He surrendered on the debt ceiling, he surrendered on spending and he surrendered on ObamacareEvery time conservatives wanted to fight Obamacare, the GOP leadership told conservatives it was not the right time and Majority Leader Eric Cantor helpfully offered yet another totally meaningless vote that he knew was not going anywhere.Republicans only have one choice here. Either the conservatives revolt and depose the entire leadership team of Boehner, Cantor, Whip Kevin McCarthy and McMorris-Rodgers or see the end of the Republican Party.Chris Cillizza writing in his blog “The Fix” on the Washington Post website, on Friday posed the question, will the Tea Party walk away from the GOP in 2016?Forget 2016! If the GOP follows Boehner’s lead right on to the crazy train, the Tea Party will leave in 2014If the Republican Party isn’t going to cut taxes, cut spending and stop Amnesty, what good is it?
