I don’t know about anyone else, but it seems to me that there is a HUGE difference between a demonstration inside the West Bank, inside Gaza, and in Syria or Lebanon, which then have been SIGNALLY allowed to attempt to cross an international border during a state of war (which is what exists between Israel and Syria and Lebanon). Since Syria is killing without hesitation, 60-90 people a week in demonstrations inside Syria, I have a feeling they could easily prevent monors from attempting to get into the no mans lane between the two states, and then making the utterly absurd move to cross the border into Israel. Frankly, Israel should simply MINE the first mile.
Syrian Border Violence May Hold Message for Israel
By ANTHONY SHADID
BEIRUT, Lebanon — For 37 years the border between Israel and Syria, still technically at war, has proven as quiet as any of the Arab-Israeli frontiers silenced by peace agreements. On Sunday, it was not, and the tumult on the Golan Heights could augur a new phase of the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad and the web of international relations he is navigating.
Predictably, Israel and Syria blamed each other for the bloodshed — Israeli soldiers killed four people as hundreds stormed the border. But the message was far more important, since the Syrian government, which controls access to the border, allowed crowds to venture to a place it had all but declared off limits until now. For the first time in his 11-year reign, Mr. Assad demonstrated to Israel, the region and world that in an uprising that has posed the greatest threat to his family’s four decades of rule, he could provoke war to stay in power.
Anyone think this might happen without the wink and nod of Khameini, the master, somewhere in Teheran or Qom?
Thirteen killed as Israeli troops open fire on Nakba Day border protests
Many more wounded in clashes at Israel’s borders with Syria, Gaza and Lebanon, as UN appeals for ‘maximum restraint’
Israeli troops opened fire on pro-Palestinian demonstrators attempting to breach its borders on three fronts, killing at least 13 people. Scores more were wounded at Israel’s borders with Syria, Lebanon and Gaza.
The West Bank is under Israeli Occupation since the arabs could not destroy Israel in ‘67, and since the Jordanian king, paid no attention to the pleas from Abba Eban that LBJ gave to King Hussein of Jordan, that if he remained at peace no attack from Israel would come, and declared war on Israel. The IDf is, therefore, responsible for the security of the people.
There is no occupation of Gaza.
There is no occupation of Lebanon.
There is no occupation of Syria.
Attempts to cross international borders when a state of war exists demand the Darwinian response compulsory in such cases. Especially when those attempting to cross the border believe almost to a man that Israel must die.
This is not a civil rights issue. Invasion by those armed without arms but the same intent as those where are, is still invasion.
The issue still remains PRECISELY where it was in 1936, and 1948. Nothing is different.
