Jordan furious after Pentagon leaks put them at risk

From Biz Pac Review:
The U.S. Department of Defense continues to leak vital insight into the military strategy to fight ISIS – possibly exposing American allies to further threats.
The latest gaffe – over the whereabouts of a secret anti-terror camp – has the country of Jordan furious with the Pentagon. Jordan has been a key ally and a vital player in the war against ISIS.
Along with bombing ISIS militants after the brutal murder of one of its pilots, the country had agreed to work with the U.S. and host an anti-terror facility – as long as it remained confidential.
Now, Jordan fears retaliation for being seen as “too close to the U.S.” after the Department of Defense leaked to reporters information regarding the anti-terror camp’s whereabouts, according to the Washington Times.
“Either the official made a mistake or is deliberately leaking information to put the administration’s plans for Syria in a better light in an attempt to defuse criticism that the administration has bungled efforts to aid Syrian rebels,” said James Phillips of Heritage Foundation.
The latest gaffe comes after a series of disclosures to the public – and to enemies – of detailed information on plans to counter the growing threat of ISIS by retaking Mosul.
The blatant admissions by the Defense Department have sparked outrage on both sides of the political aisle including a Democrat lawmaker who said she was “mind boggled” by the disclosures.
“I was similarly mind-boggled, and didn’t understand at all, how this could be part of a strategic plan in what they’re talking about,” said Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, an Iraq War veteran.
“That you’re not only outlining the timeline, which is troubling, but you’re also talking about specifically how many troops, how many brigades, where they’re coming from and what they’re to be doing,” she said. Jordan is a partner with four Arab nations in the multinational Operation Inherent Resolve coalition.
The disclosures may put the U.S. ally at great risk. Syria, which borders Jordan is a hotbed for Islamist terrorism.
And while Jordan has been taking a strong stance against ISIS, it still has to walk a fine-line in the fight to avoid a full-on onslaught in a tough neighborhood.
