Oh, Those Jihadi Hackers....Taking on The Vatican
Hey, with all of the complaining about the Crusades and that absurdly centuries old grudge, I sometimes forget that the present war is also sometimes a Crusade In Reverse. For all of the talk of the violence having been coming from the Vatican for all of these centuries, some people it seems have taken in parts of the modern world to use as weapons, while ignoring that the rest of the last, oh, hundred years or more have taken place. From the tireless Daily Mail via this report at Jihad Watch:
"Islamic computer hackers reportedly tried to disrupt the Vatican web site last week, but failed.
In an online forum for militant Muslims, a previously unknown group had announced plans for an assault on the Vatican computer network, which was said to be a form of retribution for Pope Benedict's recent speech which was seen by many Muslims as an attack on Islam.
Police later confirmed that there had been a concerted effort by hackers to penetrate the Vatican site, but computer-security experts were able to detect and repel the attack.
The nature of the attempted attack was not clear. Some observers in Rome believed that the Islamic group was planning a "denial of service" attack, in which a web site is bombarded with many thousands of simultaneous visits, overloading the available bandwidth and making it impossible for others to reach the site. In fact the Vatican site has functioned normally, with minimal noticeable slowdowns, throughout the past week, but Vatican security personnel are remaining vigilant."
I've said it before and I will say it again, if you REALLY hate Western Civilization, take the computer you are reading this on and throw it away, you big hypocrites! Alas, the enemies always want to use OUR advances to advance their own goal of destroying us. As in, Ahmadinejad, if you really want a massive weapon (really, no pun intended), get your SCIENTISTS to create something akin to a nuke. Until then, YES we have the right to say , "No, you can't have one". Got it?
On the other hand, if you want to do the opposite of what the hackers are trying to do, here's a way to flood the Vatican with messages of support. I think they've been able to handle the emails since the speech, so go for it. Just mail to
[email protected] (for messages in English...I could not find the proper place on the Vatican site for the emails, I found this elsewhere). The Vatican website (www.vatican.va) was supposed to be updated to include an easier feature for this, but at that main address you can choose from a variety of languages to enter the site. If searches fail, just try the Pope's name in your language (i.e.
[email protected] and tell me if that works) or try it in English.
