President Pantywaist and the Pirates

Doug from Poinography left a comment to my previous post on this issue:

Who is the pantywaist, again?http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/13/world/africa/13pirates.html?hp
Navy SEAL team rescues hostage, kills pirates. Nevermind... Heh.

Navy SEALs are certainly no pantywaists, but unfortunately their commander-in-chief is. Citing the article to which Doug links, it states that it was only after the failure of negotiations that President Yellowstain authorized the use of force. The article also makes clear that the Yellowstain administration is pursuing a feckless law enforcement paradigm in dealing with the Somali pirates:

The Justice Department will be reviewing evidence to decide whether charges will be brought against the surviving pirate, a Justice Department official told CNN.

Another report makes it clear that the military was authorized to use force only if Phillips' life was directly endangered by the pirates.

In other words, President Yellowstain has decided to use the tried and failed law enforcement model when dealing with pirates who are proxies for Moslem terrorists. The government's actions in this case are exactly those of a domestic hostage situation. First, bring in the FBI negotiators and try to wear down the miscreant. Only when this effort fails is force used. The policy of using force as a last resort in the context of domestic crime is obviously justified.

In the case of piracy and other hostile acts directed at the United States, its citizens, and its flag, this is the policy of gutless appeasement. When the issue is attacks upon American vessels, and their American crews, on the high seas, the overwhelming use of force should be the first and only response.

Unless Obama man-ups, starts to defend American interests abroad, and jettisons the moral cowardice of the law enforcement model when dealing with this nation's enemies, he will remain President Yellowstain as far as I am concerned.
