Now you know why more and more congressional Democrats are actively hiding from their constituents. Rasmussen Reports has the numbers that have the Dems on the run:
54% Say Passing No Healthcare Reform Better Than Passing Congressional Plan.
Thirty-five percent (35%) of American voters say passage of the bill currently working its way through Congress would be better than not passing any health care reform legislation this year.
However, a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that most voters (54%) say no health care reform passed by Congress this year would be the better option.
This does not mean that most voters are opposed to health care reform. But it does highlight the level of concern about the specific proposals that Congressional Democrats have approved in a series of Committees. To this point, there has been no Republican support for the legislative effort although the Senate Finance Committee is still attempting to seek a bi-partisan solution.
Not surprisingly, there is a huge partisan divide on this issue. Sixty percent (60%) of Democrats say passing the legislation in Congress would be the best course of action. However, 80% of Republicans take the opposite view. Among those not affiliated with either major party, 23% would like the Congressional reform to pass while 66% would rather the legislators take no action. (Emphasis added)
Again, it it that last group that has got to be terrifying for the Democrats, especially those in traditionally red districts. These are career-killing numbers if the representative votes the wrong way - that is against the wishes of his constituents. So now the members have to choose whether to follow the demands of the people who sent them to Congress or of the far-left leadership of that body. (By the way, the support among even Democrats appears to be slipping rather badly).
Wanna bet which way a lot of them are going to decide?
This does not mean that the pressure can be eased off on them. They tend to have short memories as a class. So keep showing up at the town halls (at least those that are not being canceled on short notice) and keep calling, writing and otherwise letting your representatives know that you are thinking about them. (In less than friendly terms if they try to ram this through.)
They work for you. You do not work for them. Make sure they understand that. We are making real progress, don’t let up.
I think most of my readers will get the reference to Scylla And Charybdis but just in case, they are not originally from a Police song. I know they teach little or no classical Greek mythology these days, so this is what that means.
