Here's the thing, they say Hirsi Ali's rage comes from things that happened to her that were the result of a "literalist interpretation" of Islam.
Perhaps the worst thing that happened to Hirsi Ali is that Muslims lopped off her clit.
This is a practice called Female Genital Mutilation, and it is a common occurrence in the Muslim world. In Somalia, where Hirsi Ali was born, UNICEF statistics show the rate of FGM is 98%.
In Egypt, the rate is 91%.
So this "literalist" interpretation of Islam has quite a hold in the Muslim world.
In most of the Arab world, the cradle of Islam, research is not allowed. So while UNICEF claims the rate of FGM in Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations, is high, they are not able to give us numbers they feel are accurate.
So the question is, where is this non-literalist Islam practiced?
Where are normal human beings safe from the scourge of Literalist Islam?
