Solar trade war: Trade complaint filed at the European Commission over solar glass imports

A new coalition of glass manufacturers for solar photovoltaic (PV) modules has filed an anti-dumping complaint with the European Commission regarding imports of glass from China.
EU ProSun Glass is supported by EU ProSun, the coalition whose filings initiated European trade investigations of imported PV products from China. The coalition claims that 90% of the solar glass that the EU imports comes from China.

"The new case shows that China's strategy to dominate the solar sector is not limited to just solar modules but also affects materials like glass," states EU ProSun President and SolarWorld VP Milan Nitzschke.
"It's a question of time when equipment and raw material manufacturers will follow."
Claim of Chinese plan to dominate PV sector
EU ProSun claims that the increase in Chinese solar glass exports to the EU is part of the nation's five-year plan goal to dominate the global PV market, including polysilicon, equipment and solar glass.
The filing of EU ProSun glass' petition follows on the September 2012 launch of an anti-dumping investigation at the European Commission into imports of silicon wafers as well as solar PV cells and modules.
However, EU ProSun notes that its organization and EU ProSun glass are separate initiatives with different corporate supporters.
