For anyone who watched the tragic beheadings committed by ISIS, the calmness shown by the victims had been unbelievably unsettling. According to the Blaze, French journalist Didier Francois, who was once held by the Islamic extremists, explained why beheading victims appeared calm before execution. He said that the captives, most likely didn’t truly understand what was about to happen would be their last minutes alive.
A foreign diplomat who spoke anonymously to the Guardian’s Martin Chulov said that the three beheaded victims American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff as well as British aid worker David Haines had grown accustomed to, “being tortured and threatened with death,” reported the Blaze.
Their quiet composure or gallant acceptance of their individual fates still strikes a chilling cord in the heart and spirit of all civilized people. Perhaps it was even the apparent display of their quiet determination to not let their killer have the satisfaction of seeing them beg for their life that makes their tragic deaths more heroic.

For anyone who watched the tragic beheadings committed by ISIS, the calmness shown by the victims had been unbelievably unsettling. According to the Blaze, French journalist Didier Francois, who was once held by the Islamic extremists, explained why beheading victims appeared calm before execution. He said that the captives, most likely didn’t truly understand what was about to happen would be their last minutes alive.
Francois, 53, was released by the terrorists earlier in the year after being held for 10 months. He suggested that the militant organization put the captives through numerous mock executions. He stressed that, “They did not realise that this time it was the real thing,” reported the Blaze.Francois pointed out an example of their cruel torture tactics. He said he had seen executed victim James Foley being forced to stand against a wall and pose as though “he had been crucified.”
