Alamgir Hussain wrote a very interesting article for Islam Watch: The Jihadi Civilians.
In it Alamgir explains that the civilians in southern Lebanon differ from Israeli civilians in important ways. He explains that a lot, even the majority, of them, although they don't fight the Jihad themselves, believe that Israel should be destroyed completely. That is also the reason why Hizbullah and Hamas will win / have won when fair and open elections are / were held for Parliament. However, according to Alamgir, they don't just vote Hamas et al. into office, they also support these terrorist organizations actively in times of war: they deliberately - again according to Alamgir - sacrifice themselves as human shield for the 'greater cause' -> i.e. destruction of Israel.
Alamgir explains that Israel and the West should be aware of this mentality in times of war and in times of peace.
