A Labour Party MP has been revealed as proposing a Labour Government could make an historical apology for the creation of the modern State of Israel in 1948.The nice part about this for Labour is that they can hide behind Daniel Levy of ‘PRO-ISRAEL PRO-PEACE’ J Street and deny the antisemitism this truly DOES represent in view of the world’s history
According to the Mail on Sunday, Ealing MP Rupa Huq (pictured) made the comments last year at a meeting of the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign, saying that the apology was something that a Labour Government “could probably get that through”.
The revelation comes at the end of a tumultuous week for the left-wing party as members have been suspended and publicly exposed for anti-Semitic remarks as well as anti-Israel sympathies.
As Breitbart Jerusalem reported, just last Wednesday former Labour Mayor of London Ken Livingstone called the creation of Israel “fundamentally wrong,” and “a great catastrophe.” The existence of the Jewish state in the Middle East, he said, could ultimately lead to nuclear war.
One week ago Mr Livingstone faced public censure and suspension from the Labour Party for his claim that Hitler was a Zionist “before he went mad”.
Now it appears Rupa Huq has voiced similar concerns over Israel’s existence.
The Mail reports Miss Huq was asked a question about whether an apology for Israel should be made and replied: “1948, that happened under a British government. To my mind, an apology – yes. You could do one. A Labour Government could probably get that through.’
She added: “But it sounds a bit Tony Blair to me though, and we all know what happened to him.”
When contacted by the newspaper, Miss Huq immediately backed away from the sentiment, saying the remarks she made did not reflect her actual views.
“I don’t think that, those aren’t my views,” she said. “I was answering a question. I went on later to say that there shouldn’t be an apology. I have supported Labour Friends of Israel events and am a signatory to the We Believe In Israel charter.”
