The Mark of the Beast: Sign At Flemish Pub
A Flemish pub, favored by the Vlaams Belang as the site of an upcoming event, is embroiled in a controversy over the distinctly Nazi design of their sign:
The Flemish Nationalist pub De Leeuw van Vlaanderen has a sign saying "De beest" (the beast), with a very recognisable letter S. The Jewish Belgian organisation Forum der Joodse Organisaties are going to complain to the police, and in Joods Actueel - a Belgian Jewish magazine - the Antwerpen resident Nathan Ramet is quoted:
"As a kid, I had to run around in Antwerp wearing the yellow star, the symbol on the wall of the cafe is scandalous". Bart De Wever of the (democratic) nationalist party NV-A has criticised the cafe`s action as "deplorable", and "compromising to the Flemish cause".
It is also covered in the French-language daily La Libre.
And surprise of all surprises, take a look at who arranges an event at the pub.
That's right, the Vlaams Belang.
