UK: Exeter Bombing Suspect Was Islam Convert

From In The News:

A man arrested in connection with an explosion at a restaurant in Exeter was a recent convert to Islam and may have been radicalised, police have said.

Devon and Cornwall police said Nick Reilly, 22, who was arrested at the scene at the city's Giraffe restaurant, was a vulnerable individual with a history of mental illness.

He is currently in police custody being treated for non-life threatening but serious facial wounds sustained in the blast. "Our investigation so far indicates [Mr] Reilly, who has a history of mental illness, had adopted the Islamic faith," Deputy Chief Constable Tony Melville told a news conference.

"We believe despite his weak and vulnerable illness he was preyed upon, radicalised and taken advantage of." Police were first called to the restaurant in the Princesshay shopping centre at 12:50 BST following reports of an explosion.

Eyewitnesses described seeing a man entering a toilet on the premises shortly before the blast. Two explosive devices were found at the scene, with one being detonated and the other made safe by bomb disposal experts.

Following the arrest, armed police officers took part in a search at an address linked to Mr Reilly in King Street.

The force has released a CCTV image of Mr Reilly to help build up a picture of his movements on Thursday
