Winds of War: The Shape of an Asymmetrical War

I have stated several times in this blog that we are fighting – and losing – the asymmetrical war with the jihadists. As long as we are unwilling to move off a “strategy that hinges on the expectation that the greater force is chivalrous and compassionate, and bound by rules and public opinion.”

So states a letter to the editor at the Free Lance-Star.

The writer paints a very good picture of how an enemy can fight and win battles in an asymmetrical war. He outlines the “Support Pyramid” that sustains terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah, Hamas, and al-Qaida.

• The base pyramid layer is "Public Opinion" that provides a fertile layer for fomenting sympathy (this layer relies upon tear-jerking BBC/CNN broadcasts and the Internet).
• The next layer is "Passive Support," or "Neutral," which means that out of conviction or fear, one who is aware of terrorists or their activities will say or do nothing.
• The third layer is "Active Support" (which Hezbollah vigorously practices in the United States and other open societies), and involves fundraising, providing safe houses, and the like.
• The next layer is the "Operatives"--guys like Mohammed Atta, who perform missions, and "Leadership," which is the top layer.

Disrupting this Support Pyramid is not pretty and will produce howls anger from the leftwing MSM and the Islamist apologist and appeasers living in our midst. And who are they apologizing for?

"She [referring to a suicide bomber] is not going to be the last because the march of resistance will continue until the Islamic flag is raised, not only over the minarets of Jerusalem, but over the whole universe," said Hamas leader Mahmoud Zahar.

The letter writer then gives a warning similar to the ones I’ve given before.

“The overarching thing to remember is that asymmetrical war--or whatever one chooses to call it--will remain limited only until the terrorists possess WMDs. Then, a very painful situation will become a grossly intolerable one, and even the "civilized" West may be forced to toss Saint Thomas Aquinas and his lofty rules out the window.

How will we react to a massive terrorist attack on US soil and is our leadership prepared for the furious response for retaliation?

I believe that the public will demand a massive retaliation against the enemy they believe to be true. And as the growing distrust of things Islamic grows in the free world, no government would be able to survive if it refuses to exact blood for blood in such an attack.

And that would be a disaster. One that could be prevented.

How? By educating the public now as to who the real enemy is in our midst. Those that hold, support and practice the jihadist belief of submitting the world to Islam. Because in the blood lust that follows, even the silent majority of peaceful Muslims in this country will be swept up in the brutal retaliation.

What to do.

First, that silent majority better get noisy – and fast. They should demand that there religious practices become transparent (preach in English in the mosques so anyone can hear what is being said), repudiate and insistence or practice of Sharia law, and report any person who preaches violent jihad against the United States (this is sedition in a time of war), for a start.

Second, our government, media and institutions should begin teaching – and fast – the general population about the violent side of Islam and how the Islamists have the desire and a plan to make the US an Islamic state. The information is out there and available (boldly revealed by the Islamist themselves) but it is being ignored for politically correct reasons.

If those responsible in our government, media and institutions do not reveal and teach the enemy for who and what it is, and strongly encourage the Muslim the community to follow the suggestions I made above, they, and only they, will have the blood of innocent Muslims on their hands when the retaliation comes.

Time is short and the storm is gathering fast.
