“If we’re big enough to fight a war, we should be big enough to look at it”

Photographer Kenneth Jarecke who took a photo of a dead Iraqi soldier on the Highway of Death in 1991.
His story and the photo’s is a must read in the Atlantic.
You have almost certainly never seen this shot and there is a reason why.

Frankly, that picture simply reflects the real NATURE of war, and victory at that. That picture is the result of what we went there to do. If we as a people were not prepared to see that, we should have just let Saddam have his prize.
Seriously.
If we think ourselves too civilized to produce that product, fine.
But let’s not kid ourselves either way.
That kind of debate over limited time is beneficial in determining when and if we are ready to do THAT.
As a people.
There is no place to hide from reality.
We went there to do THAT to the other guys.
That is an observation of how it is.
And THEY should recognize that is what WE do.
Causing us, hopefully, to HAVE to do it less.
But either way, we need to be sure there was no other way, and if that test is met, accept the reality of the final product
