Nothing suggests that the Norwegian citizen who was apprehended by German police in Kiel, in June this year, was involved in the failed plot to blow up several passenger trains in Germany.
German police apprehended a twenty nine year old Norwegian citizen in Lubeck, June 15th this year. On him they found anti-tank weapon manuals, religious books, and a large amount of money. Dagbladet (Norwegian newspaper) reported yesterday that the man was released after being kept in custody for two days.
German and Norwegian police cooperated closely ahead of the arrest. The twenty nine year old is a known offender with a long criminal record. According to the newspaper the twenty nine year old was apprehended because German police feared he was planning to carry out a terrorist attack during the world cup.
Police kept the man under close surveillance ever since he left Oslo, and he was never let out of their sights during the time he spent in Germany. Following his arrest, the twenty nine year old was transferred to the German intelligence police’s (BND) local office in Kiel.
In his car the police found money in various currencies worth several thousands dollars. The security level was at its highest in the time ahead of the world cup. The worst case scenario for the German authorities was a terrorist attack during the matches of the US national team.
The world cup turned out to be a peaceful event, with only a handful of arrest being made.
The twenty nine year old is born in Norway to Pakistani parents.
