That's some "Better Angels" ya got there, bub.
All these years we've taught it wrong. The Civil War was a revolution ("any and all instances in which a state or a political regime is overthrown and thereby transformed by a popular movement in an irregular, extraconstitutional and/or violent fashion"; and a narrow one, in which "revolutions entail not only mass mobilization and regime change, but also more or less rapid and fundamental social, economic and/or cultural change, during or soon after the struggle for state power." -- Jeff Goodwin/wikipedia) and the Revolution was a civil war (A civil war is a war between a state and domestic political actors that are in control of some part of the territory claimed by the state. It is high-intensity conflict -- also wiki). That said a revolution, as defined above, seems to be already well under way. The current political "regime" (I wouldn't call it exactly that) has been overthrown by a popular (spit) movement in a really irregular, possibly extraconstitutional (first Berg, now Alan Keyes trying to prove it) and (read any good blogs these last few months?) violent fashion. Mass Mobilization? one word: ACORN. And they are working toward a fundamental social, economic and cultural change. Just as soon after the struggle for state power ended as possible. Before the regime's corspe is even a corpse, let alone cold.Whether it's the Fairness Doctrine, gun control, abortion rights, spread the wealth, Civilian Defense Corps etc, this country is deeply divided. The revolution is drawn not at race or creed or persuasion or class, although those feed into it and, I believe, are being manipulated for just such effect, but at ideology. And at the extremes of both groups, though far heavier on one side than the other, the hatred has become unbound. A man arrested in Philly for wearing a McCain/Palin t-shirt. This video from Fox http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,450884,00.html or this from San Francisco (Pelosi would be so proud) http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-religion/2133515/posts and video http://www.ktvu.com/news/17986914/detail.html are just the tip of what's to come.I think the fires are being stoked not just by the pols and their minions but by the old radicals from the 60's and 70's who may be doing it because now they think their time is right and they can succeed this time or maybe just because they're bored and want to relive their glory days. Lousy reason for a revolution. But that doesn't really matter. Oh! is no uniter and he knows it. He will let the left whip itself into a frenzy, let them think their big stuff now, and at the same time keep them (and the rest) down with higher taxes, bigger gov't, indoctrination, throwing them a few spread the wealth crumbs now and again to keep them happy, all the while letting this divide grow.Meanwhile, over there, in the shadows, see it? That's a mighty dark monster alright. It's name is Al Qaida. Iran. Russia. China. North Korea. Saudi Arabia (oh yes it is). And it's just waiting. Until we're tired. At our weakest from the in fighting. And then it will strike. And try to finish us off.And what will Oh! do? Well, if he survives it, he'll negotiate. Make nicey nice. "Come now, gentlemen, surely we can talk this through. You've destroyed New York, L.A. San Fran, Cleveland, Houston, Boston and Philly, but we can negotiate the rest."Oh! is no uniter. He's no leader. He's no ruler. He's a chameleon. A shape shifter willing to change with the slings and arrows and bullets and missles. His followers best wake up and realize that or they'll pull us all into the abyss. Political correctness has all but killed this country. How much longer can it keep this fingerhold?"One seldom recognizes the devil when he is putting his hand on your shoulder." -- Albert Speer
