WaPo Journalist: Obama Decided To “Become Black” After Being Branded An “Oreo” By Fellow Black Students While At Occidental College

From the Daily Mail:
Barack Obama decided to ‘become black’ after being teased at university by black students who called him ‘Oreo’, a new book claims.
The future President got sick of being compared to the black and white biscuit so decided to define himself as more African than American.
He spent hours listening to the music of Bob Marley and became obsessed with his deeply political album ‘Survival’.
Mr Obama also became a huge fan of Stevie Wonder and took a boring low paid job so he could understand what it was like to be poor and black.
(Pastorius comment: What an incredibly boughie thing to do.)
Mr Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961 to a Kenyan father and a white mother but his parents split and his dad returned to Africa.
He spent most of his youth wrestling with the question of who he was and in the end constructed his own ‘blackness’ without a male figure to guide him.
In ‘Barack Obama: The Story’, Washington Post journalist David Maraniss reveals that during his university days at Occidental College in Los Angeles Mr Obama was mocked by UJIMA, the black student group on campus.
They found him unsure of who he was and too mixed up to be part of their society.
The group’s leader Barry Hook said that some of them ‘just couldn’t tolerate the multicultural style of Obama’.
He said: ‘They called him an Oreo. . . . We’d get into some discussions about the Oreos.’
Whilst at university Mr Obama had no time for the punk that was popular on campus, but he and friend Eric Moore bonded over their shared love of Bob Marley and Stevie Wonder.

So, black people made fun of him because he wasn't black enough. This is not surprising. After all, to be "Black" is to be a Black American, or, in other words, to be part of Black American Culture.

Black American Culture is defined by the shared experience of being raised in a family of black people whose lineage is that of American Black Slavery, or the remnants and ruins thereof. That is not the life experience of Barack Obama, who was raised by an upper Middle Class white family, when he wasn't being carted off to Hawaii by his proto-hippie mommy.

Barack Obama is not of Black American culture, and, as he barely knew his African father at all, he is not of African culture either.

And, if he had known his father, it would not have made him a Black American. The experience of Africans who move to the United States is entirely different from the experiences of those who are born and raised as part of Black American Culture.

No, Barack Obama is not a Black American. Funny enough, the guy is actually an African-American. That PC term which is so ill-conceived that people don't know what to say when 1) they meet a White Person from Africa who has become an American citizen or 2) they meet a black man from Africa. Barack Obama is actually that. He is part-African in heritage, and he is part American in heritage. And, he was raised by White Americans, or if you prefer, European Americans.

Having been raised in a White American family, Barack Obama shares much more, in terms of culture, with white people than he does with Blacks.

This is just true. And, the bigoted blacks at Occidental College called him names and all but ostracized him because they sensed, or knew outright, that he was not a Black American.

Call me a racist white man for saying it, but the young black men of Occidental College beat me to it, and I am not calling Barack Obama names for it, nor am I ostracizing him. Rather, I recognize him for what he is, a Academic, Charonnay-drinking boughie motherfucker just like me.

But, that's only the first and least important thing that needs to be pointed out here.

The even more important point is, in order to "become black", Barack Obama adopted the broadest-stroked outline of "Blackness" he could possibly have taken on; a low-wage job, Bob Marley, and Stevie Wonder. Seriously, what white college student doesn't go through that phase?

But, being that this phase of his was a serious identity-seeking undertaking for Barry, and an attempt to "become black", then let's call it what it is;

It is Black Face. It is a Minstrel Show, like Al Jolson singing Mammy.

You don't become a Black American by wearing black face, or by chooming and listening to Reggae. And, anyone who thinks you do is no better than anyone those think one can be down with blacks by adopting Ebonics, eating Fried Chicken, and tap-dancing. It's an absurd caricature.

And, that is our President, folks. The guy the American people elected to office to lead this great nation, and our whole world in a time of great travail.

God help us.
